New site

After saying for ages that I’m going to start working on a new site…or at least get things together so someone can help me with that, I finally have one up. Venesio Photography finally has an official, “grown up” Web site thanks to Grimshaw Web Design. It’s not loaded with a lot of content yet, but it’s a great start.

That’s great. What does that mean for this WordPress blog though?

For now, I’m going to keep it. I still check out the visitor stats for this thing every so often, and it still gets somewhat regular hits. A handful are people who are finding this by searching baseball players from Sacramento City. I speculate the rest are from the folks at the Express still using this as an example of a resume blog (for non-Express types, a requirement of the class that puts together the newspaper/Web site is to have a WordPress blog or some form of Web presence with the work you do for the newspaper).

While the new Web site covers me as far as displaying my photo and video work, another reason is the fact that I also do write occasionally. If and when I start a blog for the new site, it’ll be more about experiences on photo shoots, trying new techniques, thoughts/feelings attached to certain photos…stuff like that and not exactly massively journalistic. While some of the clips on here are getting slightly old, some form of sample of my writing is better than nothing. I suppose I could get a new blog devoted to writing down the road if I needed to though.

I must admit that while it isn’t a reason that should be a factor, sentimentality is part of it. Even with a more professional looking site and URL, even if I go on to do much bigger and better things, I like the idea that I can come back to this blog and look over the stuff that I did while on the Express or for my internship for the West Sacramento Press and say, “I remember writing that swim meet story for the West Sacramento Press. I got heat stroke that day,” or “I was so happy when that homecoming video was finally done because I had so many technical problems with Final Cut.”
